What about Bias? (in enzyme assays)

Posted by Sten Westgard, MS

Dr Alan H.B.Wu, a distinguished scientist who has been at the forefront of the work on troponin and other cutting-edge assays, says in a recent editorial:

"Despite the existence of reference methods and reference materials, standardization of clinical relevant enzyme assays has not been achieved....

"Some adjustment as to how laboratories are accredited may also be required to achieve standardization. An important distinction made by these authors is that accuracy assessment by existing PT providers are often based on consensus to peer groups using the same analytical equipment and not biases from true value assignment. This has created a situation where clinical laboratories can meet governmental regulations despite consistently reporting inaccurate test results."
