Managing quality vs. measuring uncertainty

Posted by Sten Westgard, MS

On May 28–29, 2009, a number of laboratory professionals met in Sitges, Spain to discuss the issue of quality, including such hot topics and measurement uncertainty and total error. The meeting was sponsored by Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. (Hercules, CA). Over 40 persons representing Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden and the US participated in the meeting.

Dr. Westgard was at the meeting and gave a presentation. His talk and those of others have now been published in CCLM:

Managing quality vs. measuring uncertainty in the medical laboratory, Clin Chem Lab Med 2010;48(1);31-40.

This is a good, scientific treatment of the differernces between the measurement uncertainty and total error models. Furthermore, it's free to the public.
