The September issue of Clinical Laboratory News has an article by Westgard and Westgard on Total Analytic Error: From Concept to Application.

There has been a debate over the scope of error that we should be trying to encompass and estimate. "Total Error" is usually a shorthand for "Total Analytic Error" in the laboratory. For those trying to understand the different kinds of "Total Error" that could be estimated, this article is a good review.
